Hey, hey there! Attention Hillel Key Club, attention!

Just a quick notice from the PRO's Alex and Alysia. We're apologising for our slack in regular posts about meetings, the original plan was to reflect on each club meeting... but we've decided to take a new approach. We'll be posting about club activities, special events in meetings or things we think that relate to key club objectives and the 'key club culture' so to speak (motivational quotes, videos, inspirational stories etc etc)

The aim of this blog is to notify the members about what is going on in the club, upcoming events, to reflect on past events and to help build the character of each member through inspirational videos and quotes that can spark ideas that can develop the club as a whole and each individual.

The blog will be interactive, allowing members to communicate their thoughts and share ideas and it'll be another means by which we can all be one big happy key club family!

Candy Canes! Candy Canes!

This year we decided what better to do to raise funds than to have a candy cane sale! Fitting with the season, candy canes are a sweet treat that EVERYONE loves to nibble on during the holiday season.

The funds we raise from our sale this year will be put towards our annual Christmas treat at the Maisie Green Basic School! We'll be using the funds to purchase gifts for the children, a television and DVD player for the school as well as refreshments for our upcoming visit to them!

It's always so much fun spending time with the children at the school and we know that our efforts are greatly appreciated...so with that said we're encouraging all members of the Hillel Family to place your orders now!

Halloween Brew is di pree!

Be a little more creative than just plain old black or orange icing. Look at these ideas for your baked goods! Cake, cookies, cupcakes, brownies etc! Cute and so easy!

How cute is this cake! And easy too! Please, someone do this!

Look at these! two cookies, a layer of icing, and a layer of those mini marshmallows as the teeth! Another little sliver of icing for the fangs and you're done!

We're forcing someone to make these cupcakes. It's not even an option.
Guys, it's a cupcake, with icing, Oreos as the eyes, a piece of candy/icing as the nose, and an m&m as the pupil. Come on, PLEASE someone make them!

Look at these skeleton cookies! So cool!

Halloween Brew Time!

It's that time of year again, Halloween! Which means it's time for our club's annual Halloween Brew! This year we wanna make it bigger and better than ever!

Tomorrow (Tuesday October 23rd) during our club meeting we'll be making decorations, price lists, tickets and posters to put up around the school, so we're asking ALL CLUB MEMBERS to bring markers, crayons, glitter, cartridge paper.... anything we could possibly use to make all our Halloween themed decorations etc.

So, to make things a bit easier and get those brains thinking, here are some ideas that we can use or develop on when making the various things in the meeting tomorrow!

Look out for another post this week showing ideas of how you can all decorate your pastries etc! Remember to keep bringing in your stuff guys!

Here ye here ye!

Attention ALL Key Clubbers!

Remember at the first meeting we told you how important learning the pledge is? And how we're hoping to do a lot more inter clubbing activities this year, including inviting clubs to our school? We also told you how our district officers pop in every now and then!

Now, imagine them coming into our meetings, and when it's time to recite the pledge we hear a bag of mumbling and giggling. Not a good look! As a key club member you should say your pledge loudly and with plenty plenty pride!

So here is a picture of the pledge, 6 lines showing your honor as a key clubber! Learn it guys!

Meeting #3 !

Calling all members! Key Club Today!

Look out for this sign; if it’s up, we have a meeting! J

Our third meeting was on October 2nd and boy was it full! This was our biggest turn out since meetings started in a couple of weeks ago!

Around forty members were present! Hopefully this number won’t dwindle…but we’re hoping the noise they make will!

Here’s our Editor/PRO, Alysia, writing down the Agenda for the club meeting!

Firstly, we talked about our regular Bustamante Children’s Hospital visits that take place every second Tuesday of the month. They will commence next week, so in the meeting, we got the names of those who’ll be coming along! (names) We’re very excited for our first visit, we’re looking forward to bringing snacks, play dough, toys and art supplies for the children’s learning centre, and hanging out and getting to know the children! J

We also talked about our annual Halloween Brew that’s right around the corner - October 31st to be exact! We’re SO happy we finally get to have the brew on the actual day of Halloween! Even though the PTA usually has a big bake sale, ours promises to be bigger and better than it ever has, this year! We have plenty of volunteers itching to make brownies, donuts, cakes, and party favors - all Halloween themed of course! In two weeks, at the next meeting, we’ll be fully planning the brew, including choosing members to dress up. Maybe we’ll even have a witch! Comment below if you want to be the lucky member who gets to wear the pointy hat! J

Finally, we discussed the famous Key Club Week! We’ve wanted to host our own Key Club Week at Hillel for years, and this year, though club scheduling at the school has been hectic, we’re still planning to do big things! In the upcoming meetings we’ll be taking new, fresh and fun ideas from our eager members to make the week as exciting as possible, while raising awareness of our lovely club. The week kicks off with a church service on Sunday November 5th, and then we’ll hopefully be hosting entertaining activities all week long.

Briana, our treasurer continued her due collection today, along with secretary, Shantelle, who took the minutes and attendance. Here’s Briana – key clubs rolling in dough already!

Look at our enthusiastic club members showing off their pins!

Look at our Editor/PRO, Alex, and our President, Brittany. All smiles and showing off their pins!

Here’s our Staff Supervisor, Miss Fraser showing off the badges to the new members! Each badge is $700 guys! If you don’t have one, Miss Fraser is always happy to sell at her office! J

Remember, no meeting next week guys, it's the first Bustamante visit. Looking forward to seeing you all on the 16th!

Meeting Numero dos!

Just some general housekeeping!

Yesterday, Tuesday September 25th was our second club meeting and we were SO happy to see a bigger turn out this week!

The meeting was called to order at 3:36pm. We started off by taking attendance and collecting dues! Due collection began this week and everyone was very good about donating their $50 or more to the club. Next week we expect to see Briana, our treasurer, at her station by the door collecting dues and taking attendance as each person walks into the room.

This year we are very serious about due collection and attendance and have decided to instigate this new rule: missing 3 consecutive meetings (without relevant excuse) or failing to pay dues 3 consecutive times will result in the member being kicked out of the club! SO ALL OF Y’ALL NEED TO COME TO MEETINGS AND PAY DUES! We can’t stress it enough.

Next, Alex Baugh, one of the club’s PRO’s spoke briefly about the Key Club’s regular Halloween Brew held every October. She spoke about the need for new ideas for the Brew and volunteers for servers and that each member must contribute to the Brew in some way, either by baking or providing utensils such as napkins, forks and plates. Alex asked each club member to start thinking about these new ideas because in the coming weeks this is what we plan on discussing.

After, we split the club into two groups: project and fundraiser and then the room came alive, buzzing with ideas being bounced around. In the short half an hour that the meeting last our club members came up with some really great ideas, not to mention a bunch of cool ideas for the upcoming Key Club Week in November!

Some of these ideas were:

Fundraising
Movie Night (a movie related to key club motives)
Candy Cane
BBQ
Halloween Fair Day/Night
Karaoke Night
70's/80's/90's day
Christmas Bake Sale
Christmas Pixie (whole school)

Project
Mary Atkins homeless shelter
Wolmer's Boys Key Club: Inter-club Project
Campion College Key Club: Inter-club Project
STEP Foundation
Oznom Old People's home
Angels of Love

The meeting was adjourned at 4:00pm! Here are some pictures from this very productive meeting!

Oh! And the PRO's (Alysia and Alex) have already gotten in touch with the Wolmer's Boys Key Club presiden Phillip Morgan and planning for a project is already underway! Yay for inter clubbing!
